Pray For the Library!

The Budapest Christian Library
www.christian-library.org.

The Budapest Christian Library is conveniently located in the building across from the famous Gellért Hotel and Baths. It occupies a large flat in a large building and has two rooms full of books, magazines, and DVDs. Most books are Christian, and most are English due to the lack of Hungarian Christian books, but they have a growing Hungarian collection.

Started by a couple in their 70’s named the Andersons, it was passed off to Carol and Merrill Davis a year ago. Recently, Merrill developed an eye problem causing partial blindness, so the Davis’ will return to the States in March 2010 for several years of medical treatment. Another young couple with children came to help the Davis’ about 6 months ago.

Because the Davis’ were paying the monthly expenses for the library, their departure means that the library will need to reduce expenses and raise funds in order to survive.

All of my larger Bible Seminars were held at the library which accommodates 25 at tables and more w/out tables. They charge a donation for use of the library making it very affordable, and it’s a clean, pleasant place to have meetings.

The library is a also great place to meet people from different church backgrounds, both Hungarian and ex-patriot, seekers and Christians. It also provides a wonderful service--English books and resources!  English books are rare and expensive in Budapest, and many Hungarians enjoy reading them as well as native English speakers who live in Budapest.

Because we were planning on having some of our meetings at the library, its future can affect our team's activities significantly.

Please pray for the library—for funding, for God’s purposes and plans to prevail. Pray that God will direct us if we are unable to meet at the library.

Pray also for Merrill’s eyesight to be restored!
