Budapest 20/10: Friday English Club

Our team had some free time on Friday to explore the beautiful city of Budapest...This picture is taken on the banks of the Danube with the Parliament building in the background.

But before our free time, we attended another KEGY church English Club where Tammy gave her testimony and others on our team participated in English conversation with Hungarian English students.

PLEASE PRAY FOR FRED WHO HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING SCIATIC NERVE PAIN. PRAY FOR A SAFE TRIP FOR PAM AND GREG ON SUNDAY MORNING AS THEY RETURN TO THE STATES. PRAY FOR THE REST OF THE TEAM AS WE ORGANIZE AND FINISH UP ALL OF OUR WORK AND PREPARE TO RETURN.

Basic Facts About Budapest

POPULATION: 10 million people, 97.7% Hungarian, 1.4% Roma (Gypsy), 0.3% German, 0.1% Slovak, 0.1% Croat, 0.1% Romanian, others 0.3%.

Population of Budapest: 2 million

LOCAL TIME: Central European Time Zone. When it is noon in Budapest, it is 6am in NC.

CURRENCY: The Forint (sometimes abbreviated HUF) but they hope to convert to the Euro soon as they are a part of the EU.

AVERAGE INCOME: $600 a month, but 70% of the population survives on incomes of $300 a month. The Standard of living has been declining and crime has been increasing over the last few years.

LANGUAGE: Hungarian (Magyar) which is one of the most difficult languages for an English speaker to learn, but most younger people speak some English and they desire to improve their English skills.

TOURISM: Most tourists visit the city of Budapest which is built on the River Danube with beautiful buildings, bridges and people! But Hungary also boasts the largest lake in Europe, Lake Balaton, and it is popular as well.

CLIMATE: Moderate Continental Climate with temperatures averaging between 32-90 degrees Fahrenheit.
